Jonas Rooth is a genuinely compulsive craftsman who blows and polishes and mounts the details of his chandeliers and other magnificent glass objects in a manner which is unique in Sweden.
I have constructed some 300 chandeliers so far. At Galleri Glas Jonas is showing three new chandeliers, one of which is among the largest that he has undertaken. Also showing are a series of lampets, mirrors and candelabras. Jonas Rooth lives and works in the southern Swedish town of Maglehem where he runs Skåne’s only working hot-glass studio. His work is represented in Stockholm’s Nationalmuseum, Röhsska Museum, Swedish Glass Museum in Växjö, and in private collections in Sweden and internationally. In 2010-2019 was Jonas senior lecture and head of craft department at HDK, the school of design and crafts in Gothenburg at University of Gothenburg.
